About Us

My photo
Carlsbad, CA, United States
Here we go again! There is so much more of our great United States still to see that we have become full-timers again. In addition to seeing new sights, we will be volunteering our services at national and state parks and points of interest. Check out our diary style blog below to follow us on our travels. Also, look into our archive and check the exciting places we have seen.

Saturday, July 22, 1017 USS Gabrielle Giffords

I found out that there will be free tours of the USS Gabrielle Giffords in San Diego today and tomorrow.  We decided to take the Coaster train from Carlsbad to downtown San Diego instead of driving the truck.  Kristy is borrowing my car for a few days since hers was wrecked in the car accident. Unfortunately, Comic Con and the Del Mar Horse Races are also going on this weekend and the train was packed.  We had standing room only for the hour trip to the end of the line in San Diego.  We only had a short walk to the harbor where the ship was docked.  It looks like something out of Star Wars.  We had to wait about 2 hours in line before it was our turn to take the tour.  The tours was over an hour and some parts of the ship were off limits and had photo restrictions but there were a few areas where photos were allowed.  Here are a few of them that were taken by Gary.

After our tour, we walked by the USS Midway Museum and Gary snapped these photos.
